PLANNING: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

For my character in my film trailer entitled Pain Perdu we decided to do a therapy session with the protagonist a year into the future in order to develop her character further.

We got this idea from a most interesting article. In Charlie Sierre's article on the website 'Film Escape', he referred to an inspiring book by the award winning film maker Pen Demsham, 'Riding The Alligator'.He writes about how we can get to know our characters. He writes about how we should think of it like a questionnaire which the characters need to fill out. Instead of the questionnaire we decided to put out protagonist, Molly infant of a therapist as she is such a trouble girl. In our therapy session we asked questions to do with Molly's experience in the house with her auntie, and how she felt about.

  1. An excellent use made of the research into character development. It is creative and helpful to explore Molly's memories as it is her trauma that, you demonstrate in your trailer, tips her into mental illness.
